LittleGracie.

I'd like to introduce you, my darling readers, to Ebony Harding and her out-of-this-world-level-of-beautiful label LittleGracie.

This label is an aray of pastels, feminine frills and and ravishing ruffles. LittleGracie screams (in a very gentile way) to me tales of cute little girls eating fairy floss and cupcakes.

I don't think you can possibly go past these amazing dresses if you are looking to relive your own childish memories - or if you're trying to re-clutch at your innocence.

I caught up with Ebony recently, to chat about LittleGracie. as well as about her style and her career in fashion design so far.
Check it out!

E: So, tell us about your label!

EH: Well LittleGracie is all about feeling beautiful. I wanted to create clothing which had a difference to them and standout. An artwork in itself.
I’m all about ruffles! The more the merrier I say. The label celebrates femininity, with soft ruffles and alluring details spread throughout all the collections.

Sum up your label's latest collection in five words.

Girly, frilly, playful, colourful and feminine.

Who/what/where do you draw fashion inspiration from?

My inspiration comes from the natural elegance of nature and flowers- the shape, the texture and colour. I love the uniqueness of it.
I also get a lot of inspiration from vintage styles, being taught to sew and knit by my Nan, I was brought into a whole world of past traditions that I just fell in love with.

What was the first thing you sewed?

Well... the first thing I sewed, and am still pretty proud of it I must say...was a patchwork ra-ra skirt. I had help, but I think I did okay.

Who is the one person that you’d love to see wearing your clothes?

To be quite honest, I don’t really have one. I’m still waiting for the moment to walk down the street and see someone in one of my designs! I think that would make the happiest.

Describe your favourite never fail outfit from your wardrobe!

I would have to say...my black high waisted taffeta full circle skirt, with an oversized white tee and black opaque stockings, with a vintage scarf...and a dash of coloured lippy.

How did you get to where you are today?

I left school in Year 12....with noses turned up by the teachers thinking I’d get nowhere, ha! I studied two years at Fremantle TAFE in Clothing and Production where I won the Attitude Emerging Talent award, and then did my third year Diploma at Bentley Swan TAFE, where I won the Libertine Mentorship Award.
And as soon as I had graduated I started my label up. I was an eager one.
The label is just over 1 year old now.
And I would do it all over again if I could, It was the best three years! A lot of hard work, disappointments, late nights and tears, but its all worth it if it’s your passion.

Where do you see your label going in the near future? Do you have any long term goals for your label?

In the near future, I’m just going to continue to expand the label into more stores, and I would love to travel and study at the Paris/American Academy of Fashion in Paris.
And eventually open my own store here in Perth, stocking both my label and local and national emerging designers.

Do you have any advice for aspiring fashion designers?

Ooh this question makes me feel special!...
Dont give up! The fashion industry is a very honest industry, you have to learn to brush things off and stay true to yourself. Work hard, and if you love what your doing it will all fall into place.

Where can we get our hands on your pieces?

My designs are available at:
Lady Petrova, Flinders lane in Melbourne and FashionWa.com.
And in store in September at Harry and Gretel, Leederville and Tu, Northbridge.

Moschino Cheap & Chic

RTW FALL 2010, MILAN

Just HAD to share with you all something that I discovered last night…

The Moschino Cheap & Chic RTW Fall 2010 parade!

I’m all for something a little different, and this show definitely did not fit the ordinary catwalk parade mould. Models, including Perth’s own Skye Stracke, hit the runway in a “just off the plane” type act. So adorable – and so refreshing to see something a little bit different. The fun little show definitely summed up what Moschino C&C is all about.

And on a side note, the appearance of Pixie Lott at the parade prompted me to post this photo of the uprising pop star...

There's just something about this photo that I love!

So, a few styling tips inspired by my favourite looks at the parade:

BUY: Cargo Pants always have and always will hold a place in stylish people's wardrobes. When you're shopping, though, go for the more expensive looks (and possibly price tags) to avoid looking like you borrowed parts of a soldier's uniform.

BUY: A Boucle Jacket. A MUST for this season if you want to avoid the typical wintery jackets. Don't worry, you can still toughen up that look a little with assistance from some amazing biker boots...and lots of black of course!

TRY: Please, instead of dressing as a skank at the next dress-up party you go to, try a fashionable take on the whole "French Maid" look - I'm sure not all maids in France are sluts. Moschino Cheap & Chic backs up my argument quite nicely I think...

TRY: Sick of looking like every other person in your leather jacket? Why not try some Fashion DIY? Try attaching chains, studs, whatever! Guaranteed to make you stand out this Winter as a one of a kind DIY-diva.

TRY: Cocktail dresses. Mid-thigh to knee length. Worn by girls to nearly all events. Blah, blah blah. So bored of it. Try a cute (or not-so if you add some, in my opinion, ever-style-saving biker boots) vintage twist on cocktail events. Something pretty, not necessarily pink, and a fur stole - so adorable, and so stand-out!

BUY: Faux fur and lace. And some cream or white stockings. Chuck onto body and mix. Serves the most stylish of peeps. Can be stored in wardrobe for another day of wear.

Perth. A small city in the massive, somewhat neglected (by the rest of the country) state of Western Australia. Is it all doom and gloom and full of no excitement whatsoever as some Perthians would have us believe? Well, I'm here to prove not!

I've decided to get in touch with some of Perth's hot new talent design wise, and share with the big wide blogging-world that actually, yes - some pretty cool stuff does come from Perth.

Without further ado, I introduce to you the first designer on my list...

Natasha Mapleson

Miss Mapleson has an incredibly fashionable vibe around her, so it was no surprise at all when her 2010 Her Immortal collection launched that her pieces would match her awesome sense of style. A little bit tough-chic, a little bit exotic, and a little bit unique, her beautiful new collection is sure to be a hit.

I caught up with Natasha recently to talk about her self-titled design label, her new collection, and everything style and fashion!

E: So, tell us about your label, Natasha Mapleson!

NM: Well I wanted to fill a gap in the market by introducing a label which is classic yet edgy. Every time I start designing a new collection I like to make it relative to history and feature elements of that time throughout the garments. My clothes are wearable yet glamorous and I think there needs to be more high fashion available without the high fashion price-tag!

Sum up your latest collection, Her Immortal, in five words.

Neutral, detailed, shaped, comfortable, beautiful.

Who/What/Where do you draw fashion inspiration from?

My main inspiration comes from history. After studying about a particular time I then draw inspiration from all different things and places. Colours, nature, animals & shapes. But I always keep a close eye on Christophe Decarnin & Karl Lagerfeld. Their clothes never cease to amaze me!

What was the first thing you sewed, and when did you make it?

The first thing I sewed was a cream jersey jumper when I was 13. It had gold wings on the back and pink pom poms on drawstrings at the front! I've still got it even though it’s an embarrassing piece!

Who is one person that you’d love to see wearing your garments?

Kate Moss. I always watch what she is wearing. Kate can make anything work!

Describe your favourite never-fail outfit/favourite something from your wardrobe.

My black 3/4 sleeve jersey dress with shoulder pads. Dress it up, dress it down – it never fails me!

How did you get to where you are today?

Well, it takes a lot of work to get where I'm going, but I have learnt to stay focused and determined. Fail is not a word in my vocabulary! Sometimes I get so stressed and busy I want to pull my hair out, but then I look at how far I've come and how satisfied it all makes me!

Where do you see your label going in the near future? Do you have any long-term goals for your label?

Long term I want to be involved in fashion weeks nationally and internationally. I am also hoping to one day open my own store in Perth and to sell in London and New York.

Do you have any advice for aspiring fashion designers?

Don’t focus too much on what everyone else is doing. It will just block your mind and you will forget what you want. Try to get your hands on a mentor who is involved in fashion design, they will help guide you! And keep at it; if you think you can do it then of course you can!

And finally, how can we get our hands on your pieces?!

The question everyone is asking me! I am selling to Bonnie & Clyde in North Perth, also rockafrock.com.au a Perth-based online boutique. And in the next few weeks my online store will be up and running.
But I have more stockists coming in the future. And hopefully next year I will be selling in Melbourne & Sydney for all my beloved east coasters!

Erin Wasson

If there’s someone you’re going to take style inspiration from, I’d recommend model/stylist/fashion & jewellery designer Erin Wasson.

The Texan born-and-bred beauty has modelled for designers from Armani to Victoria’s Secret, and has faced Maybelline internationally since 2002.

“YOU CAN’T TAKE THE texas OUT OF THE GIRL

– Erin Wasson

Her style is embodied in her RTW NY Fall collection, her forth collection with RVCA (American surf/skate brand) under the label “Erin Wasson x RVCA”, and frankly I am in love.

Ke$ha, Margherita Missoni and Jared Leto were sat Front Row for the show, and represented the pack of celebrity followers that Wasson has magnetised towards her designs. And just like them, the whole world is attracted to the label due to the girl’s downright fearless and low-key approach to fashion and style – something we’ve all fallen in love with (or at least I know I have).

Here’s a little peek...

TRY: Team leather-look leggings with a fedora and feminine cardigan, for a "cute" meets "don't mess with me" look.

BUY: Maxi dresses are still well and truly in this season. Be daring and different in a 70's inspired one.

BUY: Leather Look leggings can be bought reasonably cheaply at the moment from chain stores such as Bardot - pop in!

TRY: Layer your favourite maxi dress from this Summer with a warm winter top underneath. Add shoe/trainer/ankle boots for a great infusion of style.

So fashion lovers, next time you hit up the shops ask yourself "how Erin is this?"

Alexander Wang

RTW FALL 2010, NEW YORK

My first real post and I’m going to admit that I am a huge lover of the colour black in fashion. Everyone looks great in it, every great garment is made in it, slimming, all that jazz. It’s just a fantastic colour.

This may explain why I have fallen so in love with Mister Wang’s new collection for the Northern Hemisphere’s Fall – or as we call it here, Autumn (I suppose “Fall” has a more stylish ring to it…). Black here, there and everywhere!

The black is accompanied by another of my two loves; leather and velvet. Leather has such a tough connotation attached to it, while velvet summons thoughts of elegance and luxury. Teamed together, you get a literal take of the term tough-chic – love it!

This Winter...

BUY: A Leather Mini Skirt

BUY: Something Studded
BUY: Over-the-Knee Socks...
...& More!
BUY: Something Velvet
TRY: An Adventurous Take on the LBD

Alice Dellal, Pixie Geldof & Henry Holland
Front Row-ing it up in their tough-chic get ups.
